Malaga-Costa del Sol Spain

Malaga is a fairly big city, its main roads being five lanes with big roundabouts, massive fountains and palm trees. It’s all quite a buzz and busy with loads of shopping opportunities with massive Zara malls. The owner is of course the richest man in Spain!

The Undercover old mercado

Town centre - New year is held in this street.  I would look up Malaga new year lights to see how spectacular it is- the lights are famous.  This is the new town commercial centre. Historical centre photos are further below.

There are many squares, fountains and funnily enough not that many trees compared to the smaller coastal towns.

Round about fountains, one of many

There are also 40 museums in Malaga which I didn’t visit because I’ve been to too many and there’s so much beachfront and other things to do if you’re enjoying the winter temperate weather. Another reason, is that Salvador Dali And Gaudi Are my favourite Spanish artists. It Reminds me of Corfu City but it’s more similar to Madrid due to size. There are loads of restaurants and it’s very international.

The old historic Centre is lovely to walk-through following the Picasso path.  Picasso was born and christened in Malaga. Would also suggest visiting the park as it is very artistically done, with slate paving for all the paths and the most beautiful old gigantic trees I’ve ever seen! The trees roots literally spread out above ground about 7 m in diameter and actually form little walls of up to 1 meter Just incredible. Could not get a photo depth that showed the height though.

Marina with some serious boats!

The massive cathedral which you should walk all the way around and then: Enjoy the square cafes

Historic centre. This used to be a hospital in 1800’s

Lovely avenues with loads of restaurants all pedestrian only. Quite a large city so a lot of walking.

Malaga is not as impressive as Madrid but it has beaches  stretching  for kilometres. The marina is a cool place to hang out and enjoy the soft winter 18 degrees sun. However, there is a lovely beach east of the city worth visiting. No cafes and remote but it’s the famous playa Pueño Cuervo. Seas are wild and waves splash over all the rocks onto the slated path. There are different busses to get there. The regional is quicker but you can’t hop off at two places on the way, as I discovered! A kind of Hotel California. But the local bus 3,one street in away from the beach does the trick. I was very happy during these couple of trips to discover where I stayed in 2008 after my week of Sevilla. A lovely little sea facing hotel Las Vegas. I still remember how the moon shined on the sea at night. Amazing how memory works! Anyway the Pueño Cuervo beach is more beautiful. Thanks to tech for easier travel and discovery these days.

Well, I only had a short week here. It has been my second time, so I’ve included some photos of the Albafara Alcazaba Castle on the hill which I walked last time in 2008. Needless to say I didn’t do it again.  All my travels now amount to 6 months in Spain. It is just a wonderful country. It’s pretty it’s grand, women’s clothing accessories Etcetera are petite , Romantic, feminine and cities are clean, efficient, interesting and always loaded in history. It is the reason why I keep returning to Spain.
