Travel tips: Amersfoort - pretty Dutch cities

Forty-five minutes by car and approximately 30 minutes by train from Amsterdam is Amersfoort. It has lovely old fort walls and a stylish centre with canals, historical monumental buildings, boutiques and fabulous restaurants to cater to all tastes. It's worth staying a few days as then you can also visit the large outdoor zoo nearby.

We stayed in the centre in the Tabaksplant hotel with lovely gardens for summer enjoyment

A little further, to Apeldoorn is Apenheul which is a real treat if you are into monkeys. There's a midday show where they all get together to eat and play naturally together.
