Adorable Mijas - Spain 🇪🇸
Travelling and meeting people enables good recommendations! A Latvian lady I met in the park while we were both picnicking, told me I had to visit and although it had not been on my itinerary, I did. Absolutely a must visit for anyone on the Costa del Sol. It’s high in the mountains and far from the sea, but the ocean is still visible in the distance all over this small incredibly charming village. On the east side of Malaga is Frigilina which is comparable. The icon of Mijas is the donkey. It meets you by monument and a row of donkey taxis. In the museum donkeys are shown carrying olives in baskets from all the olive farm for centuries up the steep mountain roads.
The Donkey is this town’s symbol and I have a photo of me on the bronze model next to the tourism office
Do pick up a map from the tourist office and walk the perimetre of the village for lovely views and try one of the many restaurants. This nestled in the mountains colourful village is stunning and so Spanishly quaint. Climb the stairs, enjoy the art and the botanical gardens with over 147 different plants!
