Travel: Sirmione, Lago di Guarda

Never have I seen so many cars as in Lago di Guarda. In the week, literally hundreds and hundreds of Italians in traffic jams in this tiny cute place and all massive parking lots everywhere FULL!

We visited a little town Sirmione and it is definitely worth visiting. Some nice standard hotels on the lake and a cute little village city with all you need. There is a little castle as you enter the center with modern boats sailing the castle moat. Walking uphill towards the water anre well cared for gardens, typical tiny Italian anlleyway streets and a little church with nuns actually working with visitors.

View over Lake Guarda

The northern lakes of Italy were once glaciers in the ice age. Some parts are 200 metres deep. Entering the shallow parts for swimming you should have plastic shoes as there are pebbles and some sharp stones. We were also bitten by tiny unseen bugs, not loud obnoxious mosquitos so use some repellant.

The castle entrance and moat. The reels showed me standing in front.
Pretty swans peacefully guiding around on the moat despite the quiet traffic. The chapel below was literally 8x6 sq metres. Quite a few Catholics were visiting to drop in donations and sit on a little pew for a few minutes.
Each lake has a different vibe and although always beautiful with mountain backdrops, I’d still say Como is the nicest. That could be because we spent the most time there, or really because its beauty drew so many to build village there, and the reason why the rich and famous have bought villas there on the water’s edge.
