Travel Tips: Milano, Italy

Milano is a short one hour flight and a few minutes from many European cities and is definitely worth a visit.  It is known for its famous Duomo (Cathedral) on its main square which is even more beautiful than  the one in Cologne.  It's Gothic, massive and to really understand the size and perspective one needs a ticket for the tour. I fortunately had a friend who gave me one in advance as even early morning at 10, the queue is long!

Walking around the church for excellent views and scrutiny of it marvellous incredible achitecture is best done with the lift as its high. You can then walk around it long roof terrace along the sides and on the top.  The tall, tall, spires have statues on top reaching to the heavens and it's beautifully clean and well kept.  There are some stairs still to climb so wear sensible shoes.

It's worth photographing in different lights, i.e. times of day to get a different perspective of colour

The fountain is the entrance to the park and its about a 20 minutes walk from the Duomo square. In spring everywhere in Milan is decorated with huge talk flower boxes of white jasmine which smell and look beautiful. Traffic is well coordinated with standing road police and there are some old characteristic trams around. One thing I wouldn't recommend in Milan is the hop on hop off bus. Milan is just not that big and its more fun walking the parks, the famous shoppings streets, for example, Via monte Napoleone with super de-luxe cars outside luxury shops. If you're a coffee lover go for cuppachino because espressos and plain coffee are tiny, strong and one sip long.

It is easy to train to Venice from Milan and it's relatively cheap, but Milan just on its own is so worth visiting because the cathedral is almost surreal it's such outstanding architecture and so well kept. On the day I was touring the church, in early spring, where the weather was beautiful I might add (Long live Italy!) there was also a festival of sorts on the square which was well supported. Here, a little video from  the top. So if Milano is yet to be visited by you, you know where to book your next city trip.
