Travel tips: Calpe, Costa Blanca
Ibiza has Es Vedra with its huge rock in the ocean, Benidorm has one too, slightly smaller and further out. Calp is known for its giant natural monument which dominates the winding coastline when travelling north from Benidorm. The city Calp itself is a pretty dozy place with nothing spectacular except a few winding inner small streets, up end shopping and a few nice beach cafes. But it is worth going to Calpe purely because as in life, it is the journey getting there that counts and not so much the destination. The rock though is mighty impressive on the beach!
Getting to Calp a bus or tram is easy enough but remember to get off down town as it goes back to the mountain top to a lonely but new clean tram station in the middle of nowhere. I had to take a taxi back because outside cities, Spanish busses are one an hour plus there is no pedestrian path and the winding road is pretty steep and dangerous with cars.
Inner city streets and a few famous landmarks with mural art. It is not really built for tourist though. No major signposting and on a Saturday many shops closed. The real estate prices surprisingly were comparable to Barcelona for such a small town so I gather the rich and famous would have a villa here for holidays. And that is the view that is so spectacular for driving. It was a mix up of driving Dubrovnik, Norway and Switzerland roads through winding mountain roads, tunnels and gorgeous views on both sides. The mountain range and the coast.
To get to Calp you travel through Altea and it’s hills. I was there last year, in this whites house village but I see the church roof has now been repaired. There is a separate blog which I will add including the cute little town of Albir on the way which is also worth visiting.

The tram bridge from the bus as the route is under construction. It is really an amazing travel route to take
